The Boeing 747 with the registration G-CIVD completed its maiden flight on November 23, 1994, and was in scheduled service for British Airways until 2020. Its final flight took it from London Heathrow to Castellón, Spain. There, it was dismantled, and one of its window segments was used to create this piece of aircraft furniture – a wall-mountable clock with a certificate of authenticity.

Wir – Nancy und Benjamin – sind beide seit vielen Jahren in der Luftfahrt tätig: Benjamin im Cockpit einer Boeing 777, Nancy als Flugbegleiterin auf internationalen Routen. Unsere Nähe zur Fliegerei inspiriert uns dazu, Elemente aus dem Alltag an Bord in neue Formen für Zuhause zu übertragen.

Die Boeing 747 mit der Kennung G-CIVD hatte ihren Erstflug im Jahr 1994 und war bis 2020 für British Airways unterwegs. Nach ihrem letzten Flug von London Heathrow nach Castellón wurde sie außer Dienst gestellt. Aus einem ihrer Fenstersegmente entstand diese Wanduhr – ein aufbereitetes Originalteil mit dokumentierter Herkunft.

Für uns bedeutet dieses Projekt, Technikgeschichte sichtbar zu machen und ihr eine neue Funktion zu geben. Das Aluminium trägt noch Spuren aus dem Flugbetrieb, die den Charakter des Bauteils bewahren. In Kombination mit der Uhrfunktion wird daraus ein Stück Luftfahrt, das an der Wand im Büro, Wohnzimmer oder in einer Lounge Akzente setzen könnte.
