Small, Mobile, Versatile: Our Galley Box

Compact, mobile, and unmistakably inspired by aviation: With our galley box on wheels, a new piece of aviation furniture is joining the AircraftWindows collection. The combination of an aluminum look, oak wood, and the characteristic shape of an airline galley box turns the compact container into a piece of furniture for different areas of the home or office.

Four wheels add mobility to the design. Today, the galley box can be used as a side table next to the sofa, tomorrow as a surface beside your favorite armchair or as a small mobile storage unit in the office. It was exactly this versatility that gave us the idea for our new AircraftWindows all-rounder.

From Airline Galley Box to Piece of Furniture

Galley boxes are part of aviation equipment and are designed with compact dimensions and functional use in mind. We adopted this basic idea for our mobile container and further developed it for use as a piece of furniture. The galley box is fitted with a 20 mm thick oak top and four wheels, with the two front wheels being lockable. The interior configuration can be selected depending on the intended use. With external dimensions of 37.5 × 29 × 39 cm, the container remains compact. At the same time, the wooden top provides a practical surface. The door can be opened 270 degrees and provides access to the inserts inside. In this way, typical elements of a galley box are combined with the functions of a small mobile storage unit.

A Side Table Wherever You Need It

Next to a sofa or armchair, the galley box becomes a side table on wheels. The oak top provides space for books, a cup, or smaller everyday items, for example, while the interior offers additional storage space. Thanks to the wheels, the container can be flexibly positioned within the room and secured in the desired location using the two front locking brakes.

The combination of different materials in particular changes the original character of the box. Aluminum meets the natural surface of the oak top and can be combined with wood, leather, textiles, or other materials already present in the interior. In this way, the aviation-inspired shape becomes a functional piece of furniture for the home.

Storage, Surface, or Small Home Bar

Using it as a side table is just one possibility. With the right interior configuration, the galley box can perform a variety of functions as a mobile container. In the living room, it provides storage space for smaller items, in the office it can be used as a mobile storage surface, and its compact format can also be used as a small home bar.

These changing possibilities for use were an important part of the idea for us. Instead of specifying a fixed location or a single function, the galley box can be used in new ways again and again. The selectable interior configuration provides additional flexibility when putting it together.

Aviation Design for Your Living Space

The inspiration for our furniture comes from a world we know well ourselves. Benjamin from the cockpit and Nancy from the cabin: We regularly encounter many shapes and functional solutions from aviation in our everyday working lives. At AircraftWindows, we take inspiration from these impressions and transfer selected elements into a new context.
